The Dutch Geological Association department Limburg is 70 years old and is celebrating this anniversary day in Museum Valkenburg. The association has been here since 1971 and the Geology room has recently been completely renovated, with rocks and fossils from the region and with the new Felder cabinet, named after our most important pioneers.
The 70th anniversary of a special anniversary is celebrated on 9 November. Everyone is welcome, free entrance but just register via e-mail.

9.30 am Reception and coffee with pie
10.00 Opening address by the presidents Jo Wachelder and Wiel Schins
10.15 am Wiel Schins presentation: The geology of Z-Limburg and the history of
the Limburg department in a nutshell
11.00 Jan Nillesen presentation: the geology room in the Museum
11.20 am Opening new geology room, viewing and explanation
12.30 hrs Lunch and tour of geology tests (thanks to geologic
association Mente et Malleo Weert)
1.45 pm Geological walk through Valkenburg, as part of a
new geological route
3 p.m. Presentation John Jagt: The “Mosasaurus”, our largest fossil monster,
what kind of animal was that?
4 p.m. Drinks and pleasant after-dinner
5 pm Closing
The lectures and excursion are certainly also suitable for the general public, which in this way can get acquainted with what we all do in and around the subsurface of our habitat. Geology tests have been prepared and microfossils can be viewed with microscopes, especially interesting for the youth to learn something from the Earth.
