Museum Valkenburg presents an overview of the fascinating work of contemporary artist Ries Kleijnen (Wijchen 1945). Since she graduated from the Art Academy St. Joost in Breda, she has more than earned her spurs as a graphic artist. She makes color etchings, paintings and pastels and designs jewelry. She has participated in more than a hundred solo and group exhibitions and her work is regularly selected for international Print Biennales.

Her etchings are impressions of relationships between people or of people with their environment. Landscapes worldwide are also a great source of inspiration. “The landscapes that inspire me are either far away or very close by,” says Ries, who lives in Scheveningen.

Her landscapes seem realistic at first sight, but they never are. Colors play an important role in her work and mainly have a symbolic meaning. In addition to her creative way of imagining, she uses a combination of graphic techniques. Her graphic work consists mainly of many-colour etchings and of color etchings in combination with other techniques.
