The series of paintings at the geology department.
High up in the room of the geology department are nine paintings about the origin of life in Limburg. It is a series of paintings about the origin of plants, animals, humans and, ultimately, a vision of the future. A chronological story in which the fossils such as; trilobites, the sea turtle, the mosasaurus and the mammoth come to life.
The pigments of the home-made tempera paint based on egg yolk, like the fossils, partly come from the earth. The paintings are painted in egg tempera and oil on panel.
The series is a work by Marte Hameleers and was created in the years 2018-2019.
